El Coto (Newcastle)

El Coto Newcastle has been open since April 2004 and is just a few minutes away from Eldon Square behind St James' Park, ideal for hungry shoppers and for a pre or post match meal. The dark wood floors and wooden ceiling beams combined with a simple, rustic décor offer a cosy and informal setting suited to both a quick bite to eat or a special occasion. The restaurant has a spacious bar area where you can enjoy a drink before and after your meal and has dining space over two floors. The first floor restaurant is available for private functions. There is also a cosy, covered and heated courtyard for al fresco dining in the summer months. El Coto's tapas are portions of dishes typically found in the gastronomy of Southern Spain and all of their dishes are home-cooked using both ingredients sourced from Spain and locally bought produce. The extensive menu has a wide range of hot and cold tapas, salads, cured meats and of course “paellas” the traditional Spanish rice dish. Also on offer is a range of tapas selection menus, great for large groups and for the indecisive diners who find it too hard to choose from the large range of dishes. From the front El Coto looks quiet as the main restaurant is located in the rear, where there is a conservatory and small courtyard. The restaurant is situated on Leazes Park Road in part of the Gallowgate area of Newcastle and parts of the building are said to date back many years to the times when people were hung in “the barn”.
