Bill's - Canterbury

Bill Collison, founder of Bill's, opened the first Bill's in Lewes, East Sussex, in 2001. Built on the same site where Bill had been running a successful greengrocery for several years, Bill's Café & Produce Store, as it was then known, was an instant success. The aim was to make a place that was colourful and exuberant, with dishes that were really tasty and also made you smile, that put every day and unusual seasonal ingredients together and gave everyone lots of ideas to take home with them. The team at Bill's baked, cooked and served deliciously different food, hung skeins of raffia from the ceiling, stacked towers of produce for people to buy and hired lively, enthusiastic staff to look after their customers. They wanted Bill's to be somewhere that really celebrated food and was welcoming to everyone, a place that felt like the next best thing to home. Breakfast at Bill's is a great way to start your day; from a humble bacon or sausage sandwich to a bells-and-whistles super classic great British breakfast. Weekends are a different story, time to kick back and turn breakfast into brunch, complete with newspapers, freshly squeezed orange juice and plenty of tea or coffee.

Had a lovely dinner. Excellent wine and good uncomplicated food. I wonder if you might bend your rules to include gin in your aperitifs? My guest would really have liked one

Yet another superb evening!

We visit Andrew Edumunds every time we come down to London from Newcastle, about four or five times a year, and it's always a highlight of our visits! We LOVE this place and have been coming since we first discovered it about nine years ago. The food is always excellent, as is the ambience. The staff are wonderful - knowledgeable, friendly and helpful without ever being intrusive. Andrew Edmunds deserves every accolade it has earned. Simply wonderful!

I finally managed to visit this restaurant after having walked past it so many times. I loved the Georgian cosy interior and the menu was interesting and appetising - I chose hare leg! The only negative was the waiter who despite trying to be friendly was over familiar. When asking for an ameretto at the end of the night he responded “we are not Wetherspoons”. Another friend had food spilt on him by another waiter.

I''ve not eaten here for a while and my goodness it's as fabulous if not more fabulous than ever. Everything just really, really lovely; unfussy, deliciously, tastefully and comfortably unpretentious, beautifully efficient and quietly friendly. There's nowhere I can think of, whatever your mood or reason for eating, as brilliant for making you feel better about more or less everything.

Wonderful dinner!
